Hyannis Yacht Club Swim/Sail Program is open to children of members of the club, and children of non-members when sponsored by a club member. Enthusiastically promoted by all club members, children attend throughout the summer vacation and take part in countless group activities including organized games, swimming meets with other clubs, racing, regattas, and all kinds of supervised fun in and on the water.

Children growing up through this program make lifelong friends, get a chance to return as instructors in the program, gain scholarships to college sometimes, and even compete nationally and internationally, swimming and sailing. We know that not all children are naturally competitive, so we take care to make sure that there are always opportunities to just join in and have fun with friends in a safe learning environment. Of the club’s current active members, many grew up through the program, and the connections go back through multiple generations. The club is private, but by no means exclusive. We welcome new members and their children, and we’ll make space in the program for new participants - it’s the only way to grow our club and make it stronger. Often our new members join just because they need their children to learn to sail with us.

We’ll teach the children from the beginning to be safe near and on the water, and they are supervised at all times by qualified swimming and sailing instructors. Please call the club and ask about details, fill out the contact form, or call an make an appointment when the program’s in session and find out more about it.

The Hyannis Yacht Club youth program will teach its participants how to be safe in, on and around the water, supporting and sustaining the participants with instruction, information and encouragement at all levels. It will design and implement a curriculum to develop skills and provide appropriate resources to enable participants to compete at various levels. This will be accomplished in an atmosphere of safety, fun, self-reliance and good sportsmanship.

The HYC youth program consists of eight consecutive weeks for children 7 years of age and older (4 and up for the swimming program). Children will spend their summer outdoors in a supervised environment with others their own age. They will acquire an understanding of sailing and boating, improve their swimming skills, become water safe, and have the opportunity to compete in local and regional competitive events.

Friendship, camaraderie and FUN are the core of the youth program experience. Our program is an integrates with overlapping activities between the individual programs. We incorporate our swimming and sailing programs as another way to help keep youngsters safe on the water.

Knowing that yachting is a life sport, our program continues with a spiraling curriculum, encouraging each child to continue to develop an understanding and enjoyment of being on the water in a safe and enjoyable environment.

We don’t stop there. Understanding that some people are late bloomers, we also offer an adult sailing program for anyone who would like to learn or improve upon their sailing knowledge.

Registrations for non members. Non club members with children applying to the program need an Active Yachting Member sponsor to register. Applications will be accepted beginning April 1 provided the program has openings.
