Our racing area, Nantucket Sound, is blessed with steady sea breezes, interesting and challenging navigation, and was named by Sailing World Magazine, as one of the top ten best places to sail in the US.
The Hyannis Yacht Club Ocean Race Committee conducts an entire Summer Series of racing events to suit all skill levels that are open to our members and non-members alike.
Weekly on Thursday evenings at 1800 Lasers and J22's race in Lewis Bay. Our very competitive fleet contains experienced and new sailors and the J22's are often looking for crew. Sunday racing for both fleets is usually every other week.
Weekly on Wednesday evenings (June, July, August) at 1800, we conduct our Ocean Race PHRF Beer Can Series. A spirit of camaraderie and fun is essential to our collective enjoyment of the races. Our Skippers and crews have fostered a mentoring program to assist new skippers to join the fleet. Trophies are awarded weekly, monthly and for fun activities that our crews participate in.
We offer a series of 4 weekend long-distance races in Nantucket Sound. Each event has something different, 2 begin and end in Hyannis and 2 have overnight stays, one to Martha’s Vineyard and one to Nantucket. Trophies are awarded for each event plus the Wilbur Cup Trophy for the entire series.
Please join us, if you are an experienced racer or a recreational sailor that would like to try something new. We promise that you will have fun! We also invite members and non-members to join our experienced Race Committee crew, where we need help with flags, signs and mark boat operation. Our active RC group holds regular US Sailing sponsored training events.
